Optical fibers are sensitive to many physical parameters against which they were made to be immune for their effective operation in telecommunication. The precise analysis of the linear and non-linear effects affecting the light propagating into the fiber allows developing a novel generation of pervasive and smart sensors. The panel will show two main application fields of optical fiber sensors together with the innovative approach proposed by the recently established Politecnico di Milano spin-off Cohaerentia.
